Let’s be Honest

October 7, 2017

It’s been awhile since I’ve written; but, I’ve had a few things on my mind, which I can’t help but rant.

There seems to be a colossal whirlwind of change, technology advancements, virtual adaptation, progression and digression. The concept of humanity feels more and more conceptual as technology advances and slowly takes over our lives.

Let’s be honest about what is real and what we wish was real. Being infiltrated by gorgeous vacations, impeccable interior layouts, organized workspaces, perfect family portraits, epic nights out with friends has created a competitive, comparative environment. Being an extremely competitive person myself, I know I’ve struggled with the comparative rabbit hole chase.

At the end of the day, how do I feel about my own life and experiences from an honest perspective? Are we living to impress others or enjoying our own life? There are no re-dos; this is our only chance to love, dream, hope, try, and experience life. Captured moments are an outlet of expression, emotion, time, memories…life through your eyes. Why would you want to overwrite that with other people’s experiences?

174 Days

September 22, 2016

So Facebook was kind enough to inform me that I haven’t posted anything to my blog in 174 days. So it’s been awhile…

This year has been a much need ‘namaste’ for me and honestly it has been one of the best years as far back as I can remember. Reading through old blog posts revealed a long-forgotten New Year’s Resolution List I had made in January. Below is the list I made at the beginning of the year and today I crossed off everything that had been accomplished so far.

  1. Take on weekly personal art projects
  2. Repurpose one piece of furniture
  3. Take more Yoga Classes
  4. Work out 3-4 weekly
  5. Lose 8 lbs (not 10…8lbs) (lost 12 lbs actually)
  6. Continue Green Juicing
  7. Cut back on Rockstars (cut back is relative)
  8. Run a 10k
  9. Attend a Meetup
  10. Pay back one credit card
  11. Read more (read 2 books…so technically more than last year)
  12. Visit a foreign country (went to Mexico!)
  13. Network with other designers (this one could be more but still counts)
  14. Photography trips

Cheers to making goals and crossing off lists. Happy (almost) Friday everyone.

Farewell 2015

January 1, 2016

Happy New Year to everyone! In the spirit of things, I have been thinking about my own resolutions/goals for 2016 and realize the common thread between everything I hope to accomplish boils down to one concept, creating opportunities. I read a great quote that I feel addresses this exact philosophy perfectly:

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.
-Milton Berle

2015 for me was somewhat chaotic, full of uncertainty being tossed around in the sea of the unknown. As much as I dislike this lack of control in my life, I hope to embrace these uncertainties with a fresh perspective this year (as I’m sure tsunamis lie ahead as they always do.) Instead of fighting to force everything to fit in my perfect comfort zone, I hope to bring on the un-pleasantries and have some amazing new experiences in the process. You only have one life to live, so live it!

New Years Resolution Quote

As philosophical as that all sounds, I do have some practical resolutions I hope to accomplish this year which I will be promptly be crossing off throughout the year.

  1. Take on weekly personal art projects
  2. Repurpose one piece of furniture
  3. Take more Yoga Classes
  4. Work out 3-4 weekly
  5. Lose 8 lbs (not 10…8lbs)

  7. Cut back on Rockstars
  8. Run a 10k
  9. Attend a Meetup
  10. Pay back one credit card
  11. Read more
  12. Visit a foreign country
  13. Network with other designers
  14. Photography trips

After You, Fall

October 22, 2015
Fall Leaves

Fall is here; change is in the air. Whenever a time of change or transition occurs, even if only seasonal, I immediately feel the need to align myself with its cadence. Searching for inspiration, I stumbled across a few striking quotes with I felt were worth mentioning.

Life-Quote

I tried to choose the most personally relevant bit for my image but there a few runner-ups which also deserve a place in this space.

Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star.
-W. Clement Stone

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.
-C.S Lewis

Hope you enjoy these as much as I did!

Kumbaya Moment

September 20, 2015
Myspace-old

Do any of you remember the good old days of Myspace and the exuberant amount of mood sharing and homepage theme music? Makes me laugh just thinking about how incredibly irritating that personal theme music was! I am most certain that my status was comparable to a conflicted, deep and brooding fine artist. I actually pulled the photo above from my antique myspace account, sums things up perfectly!

If I could choose a mood status for my life now, I would have to go with feeling peaceful. I am very excited for the possibilities of new directions in life yet very content with how things are now. This is quite the accomplishment considering I’m the biggest planner/worrier on the planet.

During this kumbaya moment, I wanted to share some of my favorite desktop backgrounds. No computer should be left at default settings, no computer… Enjoy!credit @designlovefestcredit: designlovefest.com | download herecredit @ Nancy Mccabecredit: Nancy McCabe | download here

Life and Things

Oh, Hello!

July 28, 2015

I know we haven’t been formally introduced. My apologies. My name is Krista, I am a graphic designer and artist working in lovely Denver, Colorado. I hope to share this space as a creative outlet for myself to inspire and be inspired in connection with like-minded peeps.

Some random things about me, I’m a little bit of a design nerd; I love annoying people with font facts and other unimportant random technicalities. When I’m not designing, I’m usually pushing myself to keep active and strong. Weightlifting has become an alternative form of inspiration and a fantastic detox from life’s stresses.

I also have a 4-year-old pom-chi named ‘Widget’ who will always be my best buddy despite his snorty Pomeranian antics.

Stay tuned, exciting things to come!
